Karen Seapker

b. 1982, Pittsburgh, PA

 

Karen Seapker is a painter who explores physical, emotional and intellectual connections through the use of bold color combinations, shifting lines and disrupted spaces. She employs a dynamic, gestural style as well as observational techniques to create paintings and works on paper alluding to the power of human relationships, our connections to nature and the passage of time. 

Karen Seapker (b. 1982) received her MFA from Hunter College in New York, NY. Her work has been exhibited at The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, PA; Knoxville Museum of Art in Knoxville, TN; Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, NH; James Cohan Gallery in NY, NY and Shanghai, China; Rhona Hoffman Gallery in Chicago, IL; Sargent's Daughters in Los Angeles, CA and Red Arrow in Nashville, TN, among many others. Seapker’s work was included in Crystal Bridges Museum’s survey of contemporary art, State of the Art 2020. 

Seapker’s work has been reviewed in Artforum, The Wall Street Journal, Hyperallergic, ArtNet, Artsy Editorial and Burnaway. Her exhibitions have also been featured in New American Paintings (2022, 2015) and in catalogs for State of the Art 2020. Seapker has participated in multiple artist residencies, including at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN; ChaNorth, Pine Plains, NY; and Cedar Crest College, Allentown, PA. She is based in Nashville, TN.
