PLATO
ART FAIR
NADA
Booth A207
May 7 - May 11, 2025
Participating artists: Maude Corriveau and Matthew F Fisher.
Plato is proud to have presented a duo booth featuring paintings by Montreal-based Maude Corriveau (b. 1986) and New Yorker Matthew F Fisher (b. 1976) at NADA New York 2025. Both artists have developed a sustained, in-depth practice in their respective media, reflecting on our highly mediated digital and print culture while revealing the dimensions beyond physical reality. Fisher painstakingly applies multiple layers of thin acrylic paint to depict the essence of timeless nature scenes distilled through the prism of his lifelong studies of printed matter and digital imagery from various cultures and eras. Similarly, Maude Corriveau’s otherworldly still lifes put a transcendent, escapist spin on mass obsession with online self-positioning. Corriveau meticulously builds her mises-en-scène out of everyday materials like synthetic fabrics, glass and plastic vessels in her studio, then photographs them and after some digital manipulation, including in AI software, renders the resulting images in pastel on paper or in a combination of pastel and oil paint on canvas. Paired together, Fisher’s and Corriveau’s works form a dialogue on how we construct, process and consume images; and on the fine line between the natural and the artificial, the imagined and the real.
