Shuto Okayasu

b.1990, Saitama, Japan

Shuto Okayasu studied Graphic Design at Tokyo Zokei University. Since moving to New York in 2015, he has been combining photo-realistic and surrealist methods to emphasize the intertwining of reality and dreams. Okayasu’s work is a record of the strange and beautiful aspects of urban living, and the often unpredictable scenarios he encounters in New York City. He often uses photography as a reference point for parts of his patchworked painterly collages drawing from such diverse sources as the Hip Hop culture, abstract expressionism, traditional Japanese paintings and cartoons.
